Next meeting on May 15 at Glenvue. Robert Pike will be talking about the inspiring restoration work on Nutley Windmill. Also the Society will have its usual stall at the May Fair on May 6, including its famous jams and tombola offers!

Fantastic opening of Fountain today! Rain held off and a great attendance. Hopefully some pictures and videos up later on our website as well as Facebook. Special thanks to Escots School and Cycling Club for the first bottle fill.

Our website now has our letter to MSDC on parking charge changes and an interview with Robin Whalley on the High Street Fountain. Formal reopening on Friday at 11am!

Next meeting April 17. A reminder we have a Special Members' Meeting at 7.15 on Society Objectives. At 7.30pm we welcome Ian Everest who will talk on daily life in front-line Sussex during the First World War.

Our first 2024 meeting will feature Ros Black on some remarkable Victorian ladies who took on the powerful drink trade and promoted women's rights, with some interesting consequences!  Ros will show how closely the temperance campaign was linked to the fight for suffrage.

We have just commented on the Imberhorne Farm planning application seeking refusal. We think it is a gross over development that will worsen traffic congestion and put pressure on already overstretched local facilities. Comments deadline in 15/12: so still time for your say!

After a great AGM, next we have Andy Thomas on Christmas Festivities on December 13, 7.30pm, Glen Vue. This is followed by drinks and goodies for Christmas! As it's the season of goodwill, there's no guest charge so open to everyone to encourage new prospective members. 🧑‍🎄

The East Grinstead Society returns after its summer break! Ian Gledhill will talk on September 13 on Art Nouveau and the flowering of this highly decorative style that flourished briefly around 1900, and the impact of Britain on its rise and ultimate decline. Glen Vue, 7.30pm.

Great news: the Jubilee fountain planning application was approved! It's now down to finalising the details of the water supply connection and further renovation work.

Progress on our Jubilee Fountain project. The planning application for its reinstatement passed Town Council last night and is due to be determined by the District Council by August 28.

We had a fantastic night at Trinity Methodist Church for the visit of Sussex Harmony! Summer break now and back on September 13 at Glen Vue for talk on Art Deco.

News from Sackville College. The College is open now every Wednesday as well for visits in addition to guided tours from Friday to Sunday.

CORRECTION: Our meeting with the Town Mayor is on June 14 at Glen Vue. We have another equally exciting meeting planned for July 12 at a different venue when we are joined by the Sussex Harmony choir. Much more to come on that!

Next meeting will be a bumper affair! July 12 at Glen Vue. The new Town Mayor, Cllr Frazer Visser and his deputy Cllr Steve Ody will join us for our Open Forum session. We will hear their perspectives on the Town and take questions. We will then move onto to summer drinks.
