In 1989, Cuba received a large quantity of second hand MiG-23ML/UBs from the USSR. On Sept. 23, 1993, Capt. Leonidas Basulto Serrano defected with a originally Soviet MiG-23ML fighter to the U.S. Naval base at Guantanamo Bay in east Cuba. Later this MiG-23ML was returned to Cuba.

The Meeting of Generations USAF General Atomics MQ-1 Predator and Hungarian MiG-21bis 'Fishbed-N' aircraft at the Taszar airport in southern Hungary in the mid-nineties. The MQ-1 Predator flew over the Balkans at that time.

Two training aircraft from the late sixties. An MiG-21F 'Fishbed-B' (or very early MiG-21F-13) and a Czechoslovakian-made L-29 Delfin. In the Soviet flight schools, the first two years flew in L-29s, then the third and fourth years in MiG-21s.

North Korean MiG-23ML 'Flogger-G' The USSR delivered of about 60 second hand MiG-23 'Flogger's to North Korea during 1985-1986. The silver color that the customer originally used for the MiG-23s was unusual. In the 10s, the Korean MiG-23s received a modern camouflage pattern.

The Soviet Air Defence used subsonic M-17 (MiG-17) absolute realistic airborne targets too during the Cold War in the Soviet Training Center. The conversion took place in the late 60s and throughout the 70s. The transformed MiG-17 aircraft was renamed to M-17M, M-17MM and M-17MNV

The USSR delivered 16 MiG-21PFM and 22 two-seater MiG-21UM training aircraft to Cuba in 1982. These were used at San Julian airport as combat training aircraft. The second half of the MiG-21UMs and the all PFMs, were second-hand aircrafts from the Soviet Tactical Air Force.

It originally the 4th Guards Naval Attack Aviation Regiment. Now in the Russian 6th Air and Air Defence Army subordination. Currently uses older Su-24M/MR and more recent Su-30SM/SM2 airplanes in the Kaliningrad region.
