Boston built gorgeous 5-story buildings like this in the 1800s—no parking, no setbacks, no NIMBY lawsuits. Today, zoning would make it illegal to build everywhere in Massachusetts. We didn’t lose the ability to build places like this, we’ve just regulated it out of existence.
