Disasters are not inevitable – in fact, they are avoidable. At today’s UNDRR #FFD4 event, we called on Member States to re-think the approach to disaster risk reduction. We must strengthen policy measures and funding for risk assessments and early warning/action systems.

Last week, I saw firsthand how Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) provides life-saving aid to over 1 mill. displaced persons in #CoxsBazar – & heard about urgent needs. I’m eager to share all I learned w/ Member States United Nations as we head towards the Int’l Conference on the situation of the Rohingya this year.

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) operates 12 health facilities in #CoxsBazar to help thousands of displaced persons stay alive and healthy. As people continue to arrive, field hospitals like the one I visited will continue to play a vital role in providing essential healthcare.

Cyclones hit Bangladesh every year. That’s why Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is working to strengthen disaster preparedness in all 33 of its camps in Cox’s Bazar. This structure is just one example of how they prevent landslides, saving countless lives when a storm hits.

Three years since the escalation of the conflict, people in Ukraine and the millions displaced are enduring unimaginable hardship. Whether providing urgent aid, shelter, or long-term support, the @IFRC network remains committed to assisting people in Ukraine and beyond.

In Gaza, fuel shortages have reached an emergency level. Over half of PRCS's ambulances are out of service & only 21 ambulances continue operating under life-threatening conditions. The @IFRC reiterates its call to all parties for safe & unhindered access for aid.
