Did you know that ~150,000 metric tons of bird seed are purchased in the UK each year? In our latest paper, we estimate that outdoor bird feeding supplies ~2.4 gigagrams of phosphorus to UK ecosystems annually - more than home fertilizer use! 🐦 esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/fe….

We don't have to completely stop feeding birds, but we should be aware of the broader impacts to local environments. If in doubt, use the precautionary principle: reconsider and reduce regular bird feeding. Nice feature in The Sunday Post: sundaypost.com/fp/bird-feed-f…
