Finally listening through the HANA album in one go and there's absolutely no point to this as a release. Literally just an afterthought of "right, we got somewhat enough of songs for one and I guess some people still want a physical release." Incredibly sad, really.

respectfully and imho, jpop does collaborate with international composers and take influences from the west, but what makes it special is how it retains that distinctive jpop sound and vibe. it's like a mix and match experiment with jpop, and i love that.

I think people need to realize that to get as far abroad as they did, kpop sold their soul even more to Western composers than they already used to do. Does Japan do this too? Sure, but they still mostly stay true to their sound/vibe without wanting to cater to a foreign audience

As someone who's been heavily involved in both industries for a long time, I still prefer the JPN way. I don't want to hear my K/J faves sound like a Western artist. That's not why I started listening to them to begin with. I want "their" sound. Not a Western focused equivalent.

That said, an artist does not need mainstream focus or to sell out arenas around the world to be popular and known or even respected. There's much more to that than just ticket sales. (Some of the most respected heavy band guys in the worldwide music scene are JPN, for instance)
