DST Stress Principle The science of periodization is what helps us systematically plan and organize training; The art is teaching athletes to reach without overtraining. This process takes time and a desire to learn the skills to measure & interpret stress.

An important lesson I learned when I worked with US Sailing Team from 2008-2012 was Humility: The athletes willingness to take inventory on the world-class abilities they already possessed and their curiosity to refine not protect their process.

If adaptation from stress was as easy as P90X and muscle confusion then I believe we would see the majority of pitchers throwing 90+, instead we have pitchers that are more prone to having UCL surgery.

Specific adaptations to imposed demands. Sometimes I think that people in our profession take the easy way out. Meaning they think general physical preparation is good enough when paired with skill acquisition.

As a young coach there r moments that happen that create an impression. Marion Barber gave me confidence & showed me how 2 prepare at the highest level & have fun, I will never forget the impact he had on me. I weep for the loss but will show joy today in remembrance of a friend.
