At #FLAMEnet2022, we learned from the marvelous Dr. Leyte Winfield that cultural change through the incorporation of culturally relevant pedagogies is rewarding & revealing. As Leyte Winfield said, "Everyone has a voice, but the mic doesn't sound the same in everyone's hand".
We learned to craft personal statements that incorporate intersecting facets of our identities, gives weight to our histories, and names the paths we will traverse to turn our visions into reality. Leyte Winfield made us all feel powerful through the making of these statements!
Through their workshop, Leyte Winfield & Dr. Shanina Sanders Johnson shared how this pedagogical lens can enrich the classroom experience of students in courses by including their cultural selves in STEM learning. Using the CRP framework to redesign course curricula benefits all!
Thank you to Leyte Winfield for donating Make it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning for the Early Career Chemists raffle! I was the lucky winner ☺️ #BCCE2022
