albumin-corrected calcium level is *less* accurate than the uncorrected total calcium level 🤯 I think we all know that that albumin-corrected calcium is junky and you need an iCal to really know the biologically active calcium level... but I didn't realize how bad it is 😬

@manupandey27 Sadly, that is true! To each their own. I never thought when I was a kid (that wanted to be a doctor), that being a doctor meant I would be writing grants to “protect” my time, so that I wouldn’t have to see more patients. Seeing more patients>>>>writing grants

Unfortunately, in our system, when more drugs are approved- irrespective of the evidence base, quality, or magnitude of benefit from these drugs- everybody becomes happy. The only problem is that patient outcomes don’t improve. We can’t be happy with a system that prioritizes

Iron Deficiency Without Anemia (IDWA) is a silent epidemic, especially in WOMEN of childbearing age, adolescents, & children. Fatigue, poor concentration, & hair loss may be the only signs. Studies show ferritin <50 ng/mL is key. Don’t wait for anemia , treat the deficiency!

The bleeding is not urological, it’s from your kidneys, you need to see a nephrologist, a kidney doctor & get a kidney biopsy -Aren’t you a kidney doctor? More of a kidney surgeon -So then you’d do the biopsy, right? No -So the nephrologist will do that? Also no, that’s IR

2/9 STEP 1: CHECK THE 3-t-1 RULE When thinking about anemia, we focus on Hb because it is limiting for oxygen delivery. But having both Hb and Hct lets us apply the 3:1 rule: Hgb × 3 ≈ Hct. So Hgb 15 → Hct 45. Hgb 8 → Hct 24. Here it’s 8/20 - a clear violation.

STEP 1: CHECK THE 3-t-1 RULE

When thinking about anemia, we focus on Hb because it is limiting for oxygen delivery.

But having both Hb and Hct lets us apply the 3:1 rule:

Hgb × 3 ≈ Hct.
So Hgb 15 → Hct 45.

Hgb 8 → Hct 24.
Here it’s 8/20 - a clear violation.
