#ThenandNow Dossin Barracks was used as an assembly camp for Jews & ‘Roma’ hailing from Belgium & Northern France. 18,000 people were deported to Auschwitz Birkenau in the first 17 transports alone. Only 30 ‘Roma’ deported from Belgium survived.

The importance of the carrier pigeon in #Belgian #WW2 resistance operations is acknowledged in this memorial at Fort Breendonk.

It was such a joy to ink this #octopus . As I know from drawing snails, creating art within a circle has proven therapeutic effects, including reducing anxiety, so perhaps the #suckers were a contributing factor.

‘What’d You Call Me?’

The #owl is my favourite bird. On dusk walks in St Mary Bourne, I’d often see a barn owl sweep across the fields. There was something quite spectral about it. And when Dad was dying, a tawny owl kept me company through the long nights of that painful week.

Weaning myself off sketching the pug, but the muzzle of this hare is micro pug? Anyway, love hares & saw two last week in Normandy. ♥️

Every time I write ‘hare’ X autocorrects it to ‘hate’. Speaks volumes about X. 😞

A-Levels loom so we go on evening Revision Rambles with our daughter. She takes us on a verbal ‘tour’ of her subjects as we amble behind. Favourite tour so far: the Reagan era and subsequent discussion/recitation of Grandmaster Flash’s The Message. It’s like a jungle sometimes…
