The most impactful presentation at #ISTH2023 (in my opinion) was given by Rucha Patil from Mumbai in India. In a small study with short follow-up she described the effective use of low dose emicizumab and found it as effective as full dose. They actually used half dose emi.

Geoff Barnes Bethany Samuelson Bannow MD, MCR Shematologist, MD Here is a website we developed for patients on how to take oral iron, and how to take oral tranexamic acid. The website improved per clinic adherence to these oral meds. hemequity.com/takecontrolper… For screening re heavy menstrual bleeding: letstalkperiod.ca - it’s amazing!

#SickleCellAwarenessMonth D12 Let’s be clear #SickleCellTrait is NOT a cause of sudden death Per ASH screening @ncaa athletes isn’t recommended. Rest/hydration should be used for all And, sickle trait HAS NEVER AND WILL NEVER cause death for persons in custody

The main concern about the rebalancing agents that are being developed as #hemophilia treatments is the risk of thrombosis. Based on cases reported so far the risk is Fitusiran>Concizumab>Marstacimab>SerpinPC. Is the risk generic or is there a differentiation between the agents?

Fascinating discussion on AI and medical education by Dr Scott Moerdler in #ASH23 #MedEd symposium ✨Key point: Chat GPT is a language model, not a FACT model. ✨

Sad missing some of these education programs at #ASH23 bone marrow failure, bleeding disorders, sickle cell… next year folks. This year the newborn twins in this house have my attention!

Excellent commentary by Margareth Ozelo in The Lancet Haematology to accompany the main paper on the 2 year data of the HOPE-B phase 3 trial of gene therapy for #hemophilia B. If you do not follow these data closely this is a great place to start. tinyurl.com/2j27mk2d

Anticoagulation in women w/ inherited thrombophilia & recurrent miscarriages does NOT increase live births & is associated w/ increased adverse events. Take home points ✨Do not use LMWH to prevent miscarriage ✨Do not test in absence of therapeutic consequences #ISTH2024

Is it allowed to say we had a fantastic educational session on #hormone related #VTE with Dr Leslie Skeith and Dr Joseph Shatzel #ASH24? A packed room and loads of interaction. Sorry we couldn’t handle all online questions 🤷🏻‍♀️.

RCT of FXI inhibitor Abelacimab vs Rivaroxaban in AF stopped early due to significantly less bleeding with Abelacimab. Not powered to look at thrombotic events but were 7 on Rivaroxaban and 10 and 11 on the two doses of the FXI inhibitor. Paper in NEJM
