You know, one really simple thing funders can do to help scholars with cancelled grants is to not require an institutional nomination for opportunities. -affected ECRs trying to look for other grants and knowing our institutions often nominate people who already have $$$

Just to be clear, I mean not requiring the nomination for people impacted by federal cuts (confirmed by Chair’s letter, e.g.). I know that changing the whole process might be too difficult, but allowing a few extra applicants for those impacted by cuts is not.

Had a wonderful seminar visit with UMass Amherst MCB! Their students are clearly well supported, the campus was beautiful, and lots of excellent science. Thank you for inviting me! Also managed to catch up with some of my favorite people in the area!

Lab lunch to celebrate our graduates! 🎓 The two undergrads in our lab are both graduating and have been with my lab almost the entire two years. We were SO lucky to have both Lesley and Owen! Lesley will be coming back to the lab in the fall but Owen is off to do great things!

On Friday and ahead of Teacher Appreciation Week, I had the opportunity to be with 2024 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Teacher of the Year Heather Smith Heather Smith and NC Public Schools and the Thunderbirds for a hometown hero flight. Heather achieved 9G status! More to come on bsky social!
