It’s finally publication day- 10 years, 7 archives, 10s of thousands of pages of documents - my history of British nuclear policy in the 70s and 80s- “Secrecy, Public Relations and the British Nuclear Debate: how the UK government learned to talk about the bomb, 1970-1983”

A vital event. For too long have issues of peace and disarmament been exclusionary of diverse perspectives and voices. These issues affect us all, and all perspectives all valuable. Great work VCDNP !

Looking forward to speaking at this event on how conditions of conflict and unrest challenge our basic assumptions about security. In times of crisis, how do you decide what to prioritise for protection?

Heading off to Wilton Park today to take part in discussions about how nuclear disarmament can be made sustainable. If we want to eliminate #nuclearweapons permanently, we have to imagine what a world without them would look like before we can lay down the road to get there.

Great to see the EU supporting small modular reactor technology development! Major funding available for work on #nuclearsafety, though sad to see #nuclearsecurity and #nuclearsafeguards getting left out again. Loving this #nuclearstorytelling series! Stanley Center for Peace and Security doing a great job of bringing out the amazing stories lived by both nuclear risk reduction leaders and developing voices. Daniel Salisbury and others telling their first person accounts of their work. riskreduction.stanleycenter.org

Only sad that I didn't get to write it myself: "Dangerous Targets: Civilian Nuclear Infrastructure and the War in Ukraine". Well done to RUSI's Darya Dolzikova and Jack Watling for this thoughtful report rusi.org/explore-our-re…

New publication: "Nuclear Weapons Production Complexes in a Disarmed World", discussing why it's not enough to disarm #nuclearweapons, we have to also dismantle the facilities that produce them, and setting out a framework for thinking about how to do so. doi.org/10.1080/257516…

[6/9] Ross Peel & myself from Centre for Science & Security Studies develop a framework along two axes for a range of actions that can constrain nuclear weapons complexes and therefore impact the material prospects of reversibility. Link here: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Drone strikes on #Zaporizhzhia #nuclear plant have been widely reported, but these are a distraction from Russia's announced plans to restart the reactor(s), putting them into a much less stable state in the midst of ongoing fighting: theconversation.com/ukraine-war-pu… #RussiaUkraineWar

How has the Russian occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant impacted nuclear security? In this podcast episode, we explore this question with Ross Peel, Research Fellow at Centre for Science & Security Studies. ☁️bit.ly/3VxFmdP 🎧bit.ly/4c4haFf 🍏bit.ly/4bW3mMO

I spoke on the War Studies #podcast about the ongoing situation at #Zaporizhzhia #nuclear plant. With drone attacks and Russian plans to restart the reactors, the risks of nuclear disaster in Europe remain high. #RussiaUkraineWar #NuclearSecurity soundcloud.com/warstudies/nuc…

Not one of my pieces on this topic, but definitely worth a read for anyone following developments at #Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. #RussiaUkraineWar

"Should #Ukraine capture #Kursk #nuclear power plant?" As I explained to New Scientist, NO! Any perceived benefits would not outweigh the drawbacks for Ukraine, whilst further heightening nuclear risks. Nuclear plants must not become valid targets in war. newscientist.com/article/244410…
