Baker isn’t all wrong here. That’s Britain’s problem. We haven’t had proper debate on the appalling state of our finances & public services over the last decades. What Baker won’t admit publicly is that his Brexit made our politics & finance much worse (privately he must know it)

The Dutch have surrounded a group of England fans in Dortmund and started playing “Hey Jude” with them. Great to see both sets of fans enjoying the day creating a fantastic atmosphere together. 👏

Being half-decent at your job is obviously a mistake if you want to continue to prosper in 21st century Britain…. Yet another PPE graduate. Explains so much about the sad state of our country. We could and should be so much better

Your fellow Old Etonians Johnson and Cameron would give her a run for her money. They’re responsible for the biggest strategic errors of the last decade or so, damaging our country’s prospects and making life worse for people. Truss’s contribution just made their mess worse

Ten years ago this month that David Cameron dispensed with my services as AG. I had told him that his plans to scrap the HRA and threaten to leave the ECHR if it proved incompatible with his British Bill of Rights were unworkable and would not help solve our security or

This is great work. But until we transform politics, it’s not worth doing. Never underestimate the negative impact of mediocre political generations. In 2010, I joined the Energy Select Committee. Clearly *the* generational priority. Other Tories asked me: “why waste your time?”

Incentives matter. Raising employee NI, VAT, or income tax would each have annoyed various groups, but the behavioural effects would've been small. Raising employer NI will not only hits wages long run, but also disrupts hiring plans and impedes business expansion. V bad choice

So sad to read this about ⁦Reaction Engines Ltd⁩. A brilliant 🇬🇧 tech pioneer & this outcome is a failure to protect 🇬🇧 long term interests. The Govt must now act to stop another nation buying the tech on the cheap to serve their interests & not our own. news.sky.com/story/british-…

What we are seeing here is the complete failure of the liberal elites to understand their country, report on their country, or appreciate their country. A ruling class stands indicted

One positive outcome of Trump’s win is that Europe’s democracies will have to come together more in future to guarantee their security. And yes Britain will & should be a major player in that. Brexit was always a mistake. With Trump’s re-election its reversal has become essential

Dr Phillip Lee (@drphilliplee) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When will the clash between economic reality and widespread political denialism come to the obvious conclusion? Brexit was a mistake and will need to be reversed. I suspect most people in Britain accept that now. It is time for sensible politicians to act in the national interest

Brexit makes no sense in a world dominated by Trump. Britain’s place is back in the EU. This from ⁦Jonathan Freedland⁩ is worth a read. Its conclusion is correct theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Trump & Vance are behaving disgracefully. Neither is fit to hold high office. If this is today’s America, the free world needs new leadership. Europe needs to rise to this. Fast. We cannot rely on the US. The UK government needs to recognise this and act accordingly

Brexit cover-up is killing UK politics My latest Lowdown podcast interview with the former Conservative minister and MP Dr Phillip Lee on why our main political parties giving #Farage a free pass on the failure of #Brexit is a huge mistake shows.acast.com/the-lowdown-wi… via Acast

Chris Philp MP Your post is quite astonishing. You either believe in jury trial or you do not. For as long as I can remember the Conservative Party has seen it as a key part of our freedom under law. If so, you have to accept the right of a jury to bring in a verdict with which you might
