New paper. Why do we try to remove increasingly large numbers of lymph nodes in colon cancer surgery? Here we follow up our BJC 2022 paper with ~370K patients in England and USA. Only 9 LNs are required to stage the cancer. nature.com/articles/s4141…

Each additional node however provides a survival benefit - an effect driven by tumour biology. Lymph node yield = prognostic marker rather than quality indicator.
