1/10 👀 New study looking at both efficacy and skin effects from exposure to 233nm LEDs compared with Far-UVC 222nm and upper room 254nm wavelengths. It’s good news! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ph…

1/8 People often tell me that Far-UVC, HEPA etc for indoor disease control are ‘too expensive’. But let’s look at this from another angle. In the UK we spend £9.2bn/pa (or £135 per person) on water treatment. ibisworld.com/united-kingdom…

2/8 Let’s say £9.2bn is too expensive, save this money, and adopt a different approach. Stop cleaning water! We could: - vaccinate everyone every couple of years for typhoid/cholera (c 60% efficacy, slightly better than COVID vaccines) pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2180234/

3/8 - resume polio vaccines for all and vaccinate against Hep A - massively boost production of antibiotics, treatments for dysentery, E.Coli, leptospirosis & Giardiasis etc. where we have no vaccines - expect more work absences,⬆️ sickpay/economic losses

4/8 - accept children will be sicker, miss school etc - plan for additional healthcare clinics for the vulnerable who will be more affected by water borne disease, and all the others who suffer longer term complications - increase research into treatments and better vaccines

5/8 So if we didn’t treat water, wouldn't we save ££££s? Of course not. If we shut down water treatment we wouldn’t save a penny – we’d just be much sicker, many more would die & the costs to society would be huge. Sounds familiar? That's what we're doing with indoor air.

6/8 Here in the UK I’m privileged that we don’t need to adopt a “multilayered strategy” for water borne disease – we just clean the water. It is good to know there are drug treatments for civil emergencies or rare system failures, but these are not routinely deployed.

7/8 Today in 2025 the best way to stay disease free from airborne infections is to wrap a bit of cloth around our faces. Although more sophisticated cloth, this is the same basic approach we've used for centuries. theguardian.com/artanddesign/2…

Dr Nicola Boyd (@drnick4126) 's Twitter Profile Photo

8/8 In reality, this is an abject public health failure. Cleaning indoor air is no more complicated than cleaning water. There are no more excuses – we know how, we know it is cost effective, and we know that prevention at source is always better. We need to just get on with it

I agree with Gina 😷 COVID is Airborne While on one level I remain optimistic - we have the knowledge, the tools, and one day, we'll find the will - I feel let down by so many, particularly those on the left. I've done what I can, but need a break while I wait for society to catch up.

Interesting to see the pressure building behind UVC development. This is from the US legal sector, looking at supporting the development of industrial UV applications. legaladvantage.net/2025/06/the-ri…

The history of public health is often characterised as a series of 4 waves; sanitation/environment, medicines, lifestyle, & economic/social issues. The next momentous wave? Clean air in a "light-driven future" that is *literally* a wave - a light wave. legaladvantage.net/2025/06/the-ri…
