We’re kicking off mental health awareness week with the first of LPT’s Five Steps Towards Wellbeing: Connect with other people. 💬 Try a few simple conversation starters to spark connection: • “What made you smile this week?” • “How did you/your team make a difference today?

11 countries in 3 months, presentations in several forums, completing applications for extending clinical excellence ward and professorship, tidying up articles-quiet weekend catching up with ironing is very welcome. The best prize -thank you card from a patient with chocolates.

I’ve been told that I’m an oversharer & that I shouldn’t be so open about my mental health struggles Well, here’s the thing, mental illness can be bloody lonely, and by sharing, I hope I can help people feel a little less alone. So yeah, I’m not going anywhere! 😊

Any stories of mental illness that help others feel ‘me, too’ are of great value, especially in current frenzy of mental illness denial and pill-shaming.. Mental illness is a lonely road.

Denying the existence of mental illnesses in an effort to 'normalise'- denies evidence, available treatments, and support. We can swing between extremes. Medicalising every low day to denying the existence of clinical depression. Neither extreme helps. We need to keep a balance.

One of my first MRCPsych course days were with you Seamus. Will always remember you as my College Tutor in Ayrshire. Cannot believe it has been 20 years since I started off in psychiatry in the UK. Thanks for all your support and encouragement in those early days.

You meet someone at a conference, who tells you how your advice changed their lives and careers. Sometimes it's an email, a text stating exams have been passed, registration successful, new jobs gained. Takes you back to your own journey. Giving back is the ultimate satisfaction.
