I challenged ML staff from each school to create a bulletin board representing all the languages spoken in that school. I was blown away by their creativity. Central office voted for their favorite and Hilltop won! Today they received their prize; lunch delivered by me!

I attended Sra. Svejcar’s Poetry Fiesta, where her 3rdgrade DL students showed their poetry skills in both English y Spanish. I was astounded by their ability to express themselves in 2 languages. The highlight of the visit was their demonstration of the El Puente chant.

Sra. Mantzoukis’s DL 1st graders hosted their monolingual classmates this week to teach them about various types of Latino music. In English, the students shared info about Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, and Mariachi. Then the students had a chance to create papel picado. McHenry School District 15
