Engineers: we made the highest output NA V-8 ever, it shrieks to 8600 rpm, has a flat-plane crank, and lash-for-life direct-acting valvetrain Marketers: let’s go with “luxurious design”

Don’t think either of those are going to meet your “practical range” criteria. Rivian would go maybe ~100 highway miles between charges. We haven’t yet tested a Lightning, but would expect similar results based on EPA range figures

Citroen calls the Ami a “mobility object,” and it drives with all the verve that cold language suggests. Can confirm 28-mph top speed. Always interesting to see what works in other markets, but without severe space constraints, $7500 buys a lot of used car

I now own a pickup, my first! ‘94 Ranger, 4.0, manual, 4x4. As you may have surmised from its presence on a trailer, it needs some TLC before it will be ready for hold-my-beer-grade sweet jumps

Thanks and agreed! The labeling rules for EVs were necessarily put in place before the recent influx of new entries. Now that there’s more and better data, it’s time to adjust them to be more comparable and more real world, like those for ICE powertrains have been over the years

I can’t wait to see a PHEV that has DC fast-charging capability (such as the Mitsubishi Outlander or Mercedes S580e) tying up a 350-kW plug
