Over the last 3 years, I have been working with the amazing Rosena Tapscott 🚔 ♿ on two fascinating projects based at Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy. Here you have a summary of the several outputs that are coming out of them.

Grateful for how, despite the snow, rain, and hail (England, you're a charmer), people still showed up with amazing comments! Thanks again to Cambridge Technology & New Media Research Cluster for providing such a lovely space.

This is now out 🌟✊ as part of the *huge* Journal of Civil Wars 25th anniversary special issue. Many thanks to the editorial team, incl. Daniel Rincón Machón, Rebecca Tapscott, & Alex Waterman ... tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

It's been such a pleasure contributing to Journal of Civil Wars's 25th anniversary special issue. This is an excellent volume full of important reflections on why we study political violence and how should we move forward. Don't miss it!

Are book reviews missing the mark in academia—dull, lacking depth, and uncritical? Not necessarely! Dive into our article where Rebecca and I outline our approach to transform them into valuable scholarly pieces during our tenure as review editors at Journal of Civil Wars. 📚✍️

In fact, this wouldn't have happened without the generous and kind recommendation by the dear big-hearted friend Tamer Badawi تامر بدوي to both Dr. Rebecca Tapscott and Daniel Rincón Machón who have overwhelmed me with their patience and invaluable feedback to make the review as good as it is.

At Journal of Civil Wars, we have published a very interesting essay by @ObaydahAmer on the political economy of translating civil war research. It was a pleasure to work with Obaydah on his piece! Very happy to see it out there.

Our fantastic Reviews Team (Dr Rebecca Tapscott and Daniel Rincón Machón) are now accepting Expressions of Interest for our revamped reviews sections! Categories include: - Review and Rejoinders - Reviews of non-English language work - Arts and Culture Reviews - Capsule Reviews

Did you discover your new favorite book on intra-state political violence this summer? Or was it a series, podcast, or theater piece? Was it in a language other than English? If so, we at Journal of Civil Wars would love to hear more about it! Consider publishing a review with us:

Thrilled to see Gema Kloppe-Santamaría’s reflection in our revamped reviews section at Civil Wars Journal! This space reimagines scholarly engagement beyond traditional reviews, and her piece on the challenges of translating one’s own work perfectly embodies its spirit. Don’t miss it! 🔓👇
