Research by (McManus et al. 2020) on predicted grades and actual A level grades for applicants to UK med schools found for 2010-18 - 48.8% of predicted grades were accurate, over-predicted in 44.7% of cases & under-predicted in 6.5% of cases.

In a research study on how teachers predicted the A level grades of their pupils by (Gill 2019) found that for a sample of 741 pupils, 46.4% of predicted grades were accurate, 31.8% were over-predicted and under predicted in 21.4%.

Four, at the top of the attainment distribution, grades are more likely to be under-predicted, with students from low income being more likely to have their grades under predicted than students from high income backgrounds.
