Random travel thoughts from The Netherlands. I first visited Europe in 2004 with PDX Beer Maven. Three things that I find fascinating that have changed since then.

2004: Get a bunch of cash from ATM. Credit card fees will cost a fortune. 2022: No fees! Everyone pays for everything with tap transactions.

2004: Wear comfortable shoes, but not sneakers. You will stand out like a sore thumb. 2022: Seriously, 75% of everyone here is now wearing sneakers.

2014 ish: Don’t have your smartphone out in public. It’s obvious you’re a tourist and a target. 2022: Ha! You look out of place if you’re not using your phone.

USA: You can’t ride a bike without a helmet. The risks are too high. Dutch: Hold my beer while I pedal both of my kids home (all helmet-less and wearing flip flops)
