Did a rare 'Dream' talk yesterday in St Helens. I love the last slide where I show the range of Dreams cousins, revered over the world and how they are displayed. Peoples jaws drop, especially the final slide of ours, where the best view of the original is by helicopter..

Old lockers, Sutton Manor pit. Important men had a bottom locker. Me, 10 years and I was still struggling using a top one. Complained to manager, he said 'look lad see that flagpole outside, when flags at half mast someone's died, if he had a bottom locker then tha can ave it ! '

Next month we’ll be marking the 16th anniversary of Dream, the iconic monument to the former colliery in Sutton Manor. In honour of its sculptor, Barcelona-born Jaume Plensa, the world-famous statue will be adorned with a traditional Catalan woollen hat, called a barretina.

Perfect day to walk up to Dream and see the Spanish dolomite marble, engraved into the sculpture, sparkle in the sunlight to give the head a brilliant white coverage.

Before Dream ....this was my favourite interactive sculpture.

Look at this small light attached to this very large battery.... when working underground, this was our only source of light ... and as we used to say ... 'real light became a Dream' ... Hence why our famous landmark is called that... it's a link to the heritage of the site.

From the earth cometh light. The reason we chose jaume plensa was his use of light, which reflected the motto of St Helens and is based on its mining background. It was a body blow to us when the highways agency stopped this. #sthelens #plensa
