Being constantly busy is a defense mechanism. It’s a way to avoid difficult thoughts, feelings or situations. Avoidance does not make problems go away. It creates the conditions for problems to fester. Get off the hamster wheel and address what needs to be addressed.

It is human nature to tie your self-worth to your work. Truth is you can be an excellent physician despite a negative outcome. Outcomes are influenced by different factors, many of which are beyond your control. A negative outcome does not define you. Give yourself grace.

Self-compassion is often met with skepticism. It is viewed as being lax and letting yourself off the hook. The truth is being overly critical of yourself is not a prerequisite for being responsible. You can give yourself grace while holding yourself accountable.
