Iron deficiency in women is probably my biggest soap box issue. Women have been told forever that their anemia and iron deficiency are either "normal for them" or "expected from menstrual bleeding". Neither of which are true and both are from medical misogyny. #ISTH2023

Iron deficiency is an under recognized problem w/adverse impacts on morbidity & mortality. Using ⁦CDC⁩ data, we found ~40% of 12-21yo females to be iron deficient(!) & this was assoc w/non White race, Hispanic ethnicity, poverty & menstruation. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…
