This is a very welcome statement. I particularly welcome the unequivocal statement; “SCPs should not undertake laparoscopic cholecystectomies with or without supervision” Perhaps it’s time for the same level of clarity on all procedures and interventions for all MAP roles? 🤔

Some refreshing news coming out of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. (H/T r/DoctorsUK) It is not for JDs to pick up the slack (alongside all their other responsibilities) to teach PAs. This would be inappropriate anyway as doctors have not studied the medical model.

The Professional Standards Authority has concerns over the GMC plans for regulating physician associates. This whole debacle will be a case study in poor public policy. We've not asked for pay restoration in one go and it's misleading to say the cost of pay restoration would be £3bn – that assumes Junior Doctors pay no tax. In reality the cost to Government would be £1.3bn, less than half of the cost to the NHS of the strikes to date.
