The rain didn't stop us today! First, look at our Canola trial for Semester 2, which started off with emergence counts and growth stage recording while planning our fertilizer applications. Looking forward to putting traditional fertilizer practices up against biological nitrogen

Yesterday we set up our trial site ready for data collection. We measured NDVI, chlorophyll content and growth stage with canola showing good growth across all varieties. Unfortunately the drone data didn't work but we’re excited to see how the canola changes in the coming weeks!

Rats have gone nuts!! We have found that rats have decimated two varieties by chewing through the stem with estimated losses of up to 80%. #ilovecanola #ihaterats #curtinag #croppingtrials

All varieties have reached growth stage 70 (BBCH-scale), with rat affected varieties having grown back reasonably well (shown in photos 1 and 2). Snails have been detected in our trial eating leaves across all varieties. #ilovecanola #ihatesnails #curtinag #curtin

Last week we wrapped up our trial by harvesting our canola. Data on NDVI, growth stages, pods per metre and average seeds per pod were collected. Although the canola wasn't fully mature we can use the data collected to create estimates on final plant production. #ilovecanola
