As wealth becomes concentrated in the hands of a few, it undermines democratic institutions and elites use their wealth to oppose democratic reforms that could increase their tax bills, harm their income, or threaten their access to power. 👉 equalitytrust.org.uk/evidence-base/…

This is a moment where communities should rekindle the community activism of the 1970s and 1980s (moving away from "allyship", instead seeking coalitions. See books by Emma Dabiri) More progressive activist infrastructure must be done offline + galvanise people. (1/2)

For the distinction between protest and racist rioting, seek out media comment etc from social psychologists such as Stephen Reicher, John Drury, Chris Cocking, Clifford Stott etc. We collected many of their past contributions for us here bps.org.uk/psychologist/f…

This is a solid book, its a welcome focus on the meaning and nature of delusions. Prof Lisa Bortolotti has a lovely way of referencing speakers and interpreters. I wish in forensic mental health we maintained greater curiosity of delusions when acting as interpreters.

Hey Psychologists... Is there an explanation for why I literally stop working when I'm almost finished something, instead of just finishing it? I'll get really near to completing a task and then think, "right, almost done, I'll finish that another time." Anyone else do this?

Pleased to see this paper published online today! Keir Harding & I apply themes from Orwell’s 1984 to MH inpatient settings, arguing that restrictive practices esp for those with a personality disorder dx arise from dichotomous thinking & externalised fears: doi.org/10.1108/MHRJ-1…

A thoughtful & thought provoking read from great colleague Michael Haslam & Keir Harding. Given the dystopian lens, pleased ultimately argues for nursing and allied resistances rather than collapsing into pessimism. We work under Big Brother but do not necessarily love him yet

BTW - favourite Orwell quote: “If you can feel that staying human is worthwhile, even when it can’t have any result whatever, you’ve beaten them”.

Published open access Nursing Inquiry today. Considers how issues in conceptualising MH nurse role & function arise from our ‘being’ as MH nurses (& much of our ‘doing’) being situated within the sphere of intersubjective relations. #MHDeservesBetter doi.org/10.1111/nin.12…

What is psychological safety? Until now, one concept has dominated the answer to this question. The problem is that this concept is based only in physical #healthcare settings. Our new questionnaire captures #psychologicalsafety in #MentalHealth staff 👏 academic.oup.com/intqhc/article…
