This 76th Myanmar armed forces day will stay engraved as a day of terror and dishonour. The killing of unarmed civilians, including children, are indefensible acts. The EU stands by the people of Myanmar and calls for an immediate end of violence and the restoration of democracy.

#Myanmar Armed Forces day is the bloodiest day yet. Just as expected. Time for António Guterres Christine Schraner Burgener to demand UN Security Council pass a resolution to impose a global arm embargo on #Tatmadaw & police! #SaveMyanmar #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Secretary Antony Blinken

The United Nations in Myanmar is horrified by the needless loss of life today with reports of dozens of people shot dead by the military across the country. The violence is completely unacceptable & must stop immediately. Those responsible must be held to account. ➡️myanmar.un.org/en/123295-stat…

Given the way the Myanmar junta celebrated Armed Forces Day today -- killing at least 91 people including 29 in Mandalay and 24 in Yangon -- today is really "a day of shame for the armed forces,” says CRPH spokesman. reuters.com/article/us-mya…

Absolutely agree with Helen Clark, New Zealand's former PM here. As #Myanmar's military continues to massacre unarmed civilians, the inaction of ASEAN & the UN Security Council is unconscionable. Time to end impunity. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

Good to speak with reporters at the Foreign Press Center in New York today. I underscored the need for UN Security Council action on the crises in Burma, Ethiopia, Libya, Syria, & Yemen. It will take regional and international efforts to help restore and maintain peace and security.

Having already imposed targeted sanctions on one of the two big conglomerates owned by the Myanmar military, the British government now imposes targeted sanctions on the other one, too. That helps deprive the junta of the revenue used to kill protesters. gov.uk/government/new…

Internet has been cut in Myanmar for the 51st consecutive night. Mobile data is out permanently and public WiFi is severely limited. It’s having a huge impact on information flow, especially to rural areas. Daily pamphlets like the one below and radio news have become vital.

Our worldwide famous actor, Paing Takkon, was arrested by at least 50 terrorists and junta in this early morning. He was not in good health when he got arrested and they took all of his phones. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar #Apr8Coup

We condemn the bullying actions of the Myanmar military regime in London yesterday, and I pay tribute to Kyaw Zwar Minn for his courage. The UK continues to call for an end to the coup and the appalling violence, and a swift restoration of democracy
