The conflation between Emergency Medicine and the Emergency Department is terrible for our specialty - bad for patients and bad for staff training and retention.

My thoughts from over a year ago remain unchanged, perhaps emboldened…

We will be able to report on trends with 3 years of data and explore in depth the equality, diversity and inclusion data too.

However, we need your help to keep the momentum going. More people are listening, and our ideas to support trainers and trainees are growing too.

This year with enough data we will report at a department level too such as

Where are trainees getting EDT?
Are LTFT trainees on balanced rotas?
Where is high quality Sim, US, QI and Research support and training?
Where is bullying occuring?

And explore raising standards

Royal College of Emergency Medicine is engaged with the data at the most senior levels. The survey was designed with the input of the RCEM's committee, helping to ensure the data is relevant not just to trainees but also wider system

We are working on NHS England and aim to improve the use of GMC data too

We are half way through the EMTA survey collection period. Thank you to those who have supported us so far. 342 responses and counting :)

Our target is 800 so we need your help.

12 minutes will help us to continue promoting parity in training and data-driven policy.

Last year when Royal College of Emergency Medicine exposed the scale of deaths associated with long waits we were gaslit by NHSE who questioned the data without providing credible reasons. It has stood up to scrutiny. This reestimate is conservative, and scandalous rcem.ac.uk/wp-content/upl… 1/2

If you want a quick history lesson to understand precisely why we are in the dire straits we are in in the NHS - this video is a must watch.

If you start to dig deeper into this you’ll also understand some of the workforce plans a lot better

Lawrence Dunhill 1. It's really depressing that the focus is on 76%. This will inevitably focus effort on the 'quick wins' and discharged patients. Meanwhile there is deafening silence about the utterly miserable 12 hour (from time of arrival) stays.

In December 2011, 4 patients waited more than 12h for a hospital bed after being admitted through A&E in England.

In December 2023, that number was 44,000

In January 2024, 54,000

The public must understand reality to demand change

Dear NHS England,

In March 2023 you stopped funding the dedicated Staff Mental Health & Wellbeing Hubs - set up at the height of the pandemic - to which you are now directing staff in this tweet.

It doesn't exactly ring with sincere concern for staff, does it?
