Possibility of severe weather returns Wednesday, perhaps even early in the day with several rounds of storms between dawn and late Wednesday night. Pockets of strong wind gusts and an isolated tornado are possible, along with localized high water.

Rain/thunder ramping up in coverage this evening and especially overnight. Most will get a good soaking but some locations could see 2-3" or even locally 4" during that time, which would cause flooding. Esp. watching southern Kentucky and western West Virginia south of I-64.

Rain is spotty now this evening but another organized batch of rain/thunder developing in the western half of Kentucky. This will slide over our area overnight into Thursday morning with a general 1-2" and locally higher amounts that can cause pockets of high water.

Allow extra time Thursday morning and watch for heavy ponding and possible road closures in a few spots. Widespread rain will turn much more scattered by late morning into the afternoon with some sun breaking back out.

Most of us are pretty dry Friday but rain chances increase again Saturday, especially in West Virginia/Southeast Kentucky as a weak cutoff low forms to our southwest and draws some tropical moisture northwest across the Appalachians. Heaviest rain will be in the mountains.

Tricky and fluid forecast for the Mountaineer game against Utah Saturday but showers could make it up to Morgantown at times so for right now plan on bringing a poncho.

Drought monitor update today actually got worse for many areas...*but* it only includes rain that fell through early Tuesday morning. Northern Kentucky and Southeast Ohio have seen improvement since then with 1-4"+ of rainfall. Kanawha Valley still needs more rain.

Amounts have varied across our area but after 6 weeks which featured only 5-6 days with rain we've picked up at least some rain in Charleston and Huntington on 5 days out of the last 6!

Watch for some locally dense fog Friday morning! Once that burns off we'll enjoy some sunshine and rain chances will be spotty at best so a nice end to an unsettled week.

Latest trend with the storm to become Imelda shows it slowing down approaching the SE Coast early next week and then moving east as reflected in the 11 a.m. Saturday NHC forecast. Southern/Eastern WV might see a bit of rain Tuesday from that but overall minimal impacts for us.
