West Coast bird rarely seen in New York is spending time at Flanders feeder, drawing crowds - RiverheadLOCAL riverheadlocal.com/2024/04/24/wes… Queens and L.I. Bird Alert #birdcpp
Happy to see the Swallows (both Barn and Tree) back at the beach today, 4/28. (Cedar Beach, Babylon). Many other usual birds were around. Warblers have not found their way back here yet. Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
Yesterday, 5/17, I was fascinated watching this Green Heron hunt, sing + stretch, a House Wren sing and a Red-bellied Woodpecker (in bad light) syphon the nectar from a Paulownia bloom. Sands Point Preserve. Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
Sunday at Bayard Cutting Arboretum with a couple of Wild Turkeys. (First time I’ve ever seen them here.) Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
2 not usual visitors to the 9/11 Memorial at Cedar Beach/Babylon on Sunday, 6/2. The Willet flew around a bit. There is no real water very close, the Atlantic Ocean is about 300 yards away. The Kitten was friendly. It didn't hop away, rather it posed. Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
I've been remembering the time I spent with ten Flamingos off the coast of Aruba, 17 years ago. They were very friendly to people, walking right in between the sunbathers. Perhaps I will see one again soon, a little closer to home this time. Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
I really appreciate that the American Flamingo waited for me to get to Wainscott today. It was hanging in Georgica Pond 100 yards from shore with Swans, Common Terns, Cormorants, Gulls and, yay, Piping Plovers. Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
At Oceanside’s Marine Nature Study on Friday…5 YCNHs, 6 Great and 2 Snowy Egrets, a Blue + a Green Heron, a dozen Purple Martins, 3 Ospreys…the list goes on. Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
I happened upon a family of 7 Mute Swans on Captree Island on Saturday afternoon. They were up to some crazy antics. Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
I had the pleasure of hanging out with a Prairie Warbler for several minutes today at Lido Beach Preserve. Queens and L.I. Bird Alert
