Our work led by Valeria Añorve-Garibay with Diego Ortega-Del Vecchyo and Emilia Huerta on ways in which natural selection acting on complex traits hampers the predictive accuracy of polygenic scores in ancient samples is now on bioRxiv! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Our preprint looking at the impact of stabilizing and directional selection on the prediction of complex traits in ancient samples is out. This work was spearheaded by Valeria Añorve-Garibay in collaboration with Mashaal Sohail and Emilia Huerta .

New paper out in PLOS Biology! Two SNPs fully explain kākāpō color polymorphism, likely under balancing selection from extinct predators🦜🦅🧬 Great collab of many evol biologists, conservation scientists and physicists, led by the brilliant Lara Urban journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar…

✨️ I’m excited to share my second-author paper encapsulating most of my PhD work, which is out today in Science Magazine 🥰❤️. A new long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) underlying sex chromosome dosage compensation in the lizard Anolis 🦎 #MAYEX! 🧵👇 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

We are thrilled to host Christian D. Huber Penn State today LIIGH! We are listening about mechanisms of admixture in human populations - and how we can infer them through #genetics!

Excited to share our review article on Denisovans, now out in Nature Genetics🥳I am very grateful to Emilia Huerta for making this possible! Check it out 🔎🧬 nature.com/articles/s4158…

I am truly honored to have been nominated to run for a Director position of Genetics Society of America! GSA members, vote before December 6. My candidacy statement can be found here: genetics-gsa.org/2024-election-…

For folks still here, the first big project from my group is pre-printed. Super talented postdoc Maria Akopyan explored how reference bias can skew estimates of diversity, demography, divergence and recombination rate with help from Ellie Armstrong 🦁🐯🐻 and @GMenchev. Thread 👇🏽

Our work is out in AJHG "Natural selection acting on complex traits hampers the predictive accuracy of polygenic scores in ancient samples." Great collaboration with Diego Ortega-Del Vecchyo & Emilia Huerta, led by talented LCG UNAM Juriquilla (LCGEJ) undergrad Valeria Añorve-Garibay, now a PhD student at CCMB at Brown.

Our paper is out! Happy to have collaborated with Mashaal Sohail , Emilia Huerta and Valeria Añorve-Garibay on this project. Here we analyzed how stabilizing and directional selection cause problems to predict traits in ancient samples.
