This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: the start of a few days in Amsterdam. Hans cooled his wheels on the outskirts of the city, we caught the train into the centre every day and wandered, and walked, and dandered, and then stopped for coffee, and then wandered some more

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: Brilliant day Zuiderzeemuseum, a massive open-air living history museum (à la the Folk Museum in our own exotic Cultra). Followed by a night in the camperstop at the nearby marina, the gentle clink of the masts lulling us to sleep

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: Lübeck - a quick stop off to try frankfurters on our way to the Scandi part of the trip. My highlight was finding a German TK Maxx. Seriously, I was really happy! (Also, there was a Woolworths, but I wasn’t so excited about that)

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: across the ‘Little Belt’ in Denmark. Ahead of us in this stretch: Marina-side camperstops, spectacular sunsets, actual danish pastries, an Irish pub, and a fairytale castle (Egeskov Slot) with a motor museum and a treetop walk

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: Bagenkop, right on the Cold War line between East & West. If WW3 had broken out, this is the place that would’ve sounded the alarm. The radar stations, gun turrets and missile silos are now rusting away into irrelevance (hopefully…)

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: Copenhagen. A few days here, mostly just lusting after the CHAIRS. Oh, the chairs! In the Design Museum there was even a whole room of them on display like fine art (which I suppose they are). Everything in Denmark is just so GORGEOUS

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: Helsingør is the Elsinore of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and a team of actors perform scenes from Hamlet in the castle, often chatting to visitors while still in character as Ophelia or Hamlet or Polonius…how could @shed_writing resist?!

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: where else for our first stop in Sweden, but the home of IKEA? The ikea museum in Älmhult, located in their very first store, was great fun - packed full of quirky displays and ultimate Ikea Hacks

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: Oland, connected by another awesome Scandi bridge, is like the island the modern world forgot. We stayed here a couple of days, free-camping in glorious isolation amidst traditional farmsteads, medieval windmills, iron-age forts…

No matter what, I will always be the positive side of this platform..

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: Gota Canal, one long boat-staircase with 58 locks from end to end. Apparently it’s called ‘divorce ditch’ because so many couples on “relaxing” riverboat holidays have relationship meltdowns trying to negotiate all the locks and gates

This day 5 years ago on the #BennettsBigTrip: Norrköping was a fading industrial town until a regeneration project turned the tumbledown factories into a steampunk paradise: eclectic art mixed with chunky rusty machinery. And on a rainy day we had it all pretty much to ourselves!
