Tomorrow the #conclave will start. This is Cardinal Thomas Philippus d'Alsace-Boussu, Archbishop of Mechelen. During his career as Cardinal five conclaves happened (he participated in two of them / 1721 and 1740).

Stukje vergeten nationale geschiedenis: op 6 mei 1598 stond Filips II de Habsburgse Nederlanden af aan zijn dochter Isabella & schoonzoon Albrecht. De Habsburgse Nederlanden werden zo formeel onafhankelijk. Het Aartshertogelijk Regime zou tot vanuit Brussel het land besturen.

The cardinal who is patron Saint of the Belgian monarchy: St Albert of Leuven. Became Prince-Bishop of Liege at the age of 25 in 1191. Was killed by knights sent by Emperor Henry VI the following year. #conclave

Met het #conclaaf dat start, hier een leuke anekdote over de verkiezing van Adrianus VI in 1522: Was niet aanwezig tijdens het conclaaf, wilde die functie niet, was eerder bedroefd toen het nieuws hem bereikte en het volk in Rome had geen idee wie de man was.
