As anyone following EU affairs could not avoid notice, Mario Draghi unveiled his long-awaited report today. He touched upon various issues, but digital technologies in general and AI in particular stand out as a make-it-or-break-it matter. A 🧵on what you need to know. 1/10

NEW: IMCO Committee Press coordinators decided today on the composition (the same as the AI Act) and working method of the #AI working group. LIBE Committee Press still has to appoint its replacements, including the co-chair, but is expected to endorse IMCO's approach. content.mlex.com/#/content/1594…

Fascinating to see the mass scraping of European user activity described as an attempt to "understand the EU’s rich cultural, social and historical contributions"

2/4 #AgeVerification tools can't be trusted. They're: ❌Exclusive: Document-based verification excludes those without IDs, worsening the digital divide ❌Invasive: Their ‘accuracy’ relies on processing vast amounts of personal data, threatening our right to online anonymity

I’ve always avoided this platform but to see “experts” describe a state-sponsored terror attack - that has injured 3,000 people and killed 9, including a child - an “impressive operation “ is just disgraceful. We are all terrorized right now. Nothing “impressive” about that.
