#circimgjc This study examined the use of Diffusion Tensor (DT) Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) in patients with cardiac amyloidosis (CA). We compared DT-CMR of 20 cardiac amyloidosis patients, with 11 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and 10 controls.

#circimgjc DT-CMR assesses the microstructure of the myocardium non-invasively and without contrast. Diffusion biomarkers map the location and extent of amyloid deposits. They are significantly different between HCM and cardiac amyloid (CA) and can discriminate the two conditions

#circimgjc The two diffusion biomarkers are mean diffusivity and fractional anisotropy. MD assess how free water is to diffuse and thus reflects myocyte packing. FA measures the degree of restriction upon diffusion and the underlying degree of myocyte organisation.

#circimgjc In addition to improved diagnosis of CA, the possibility of monitoring response to new treatments through DT-CMR parameters of the ECV directly are of great interest.
