Goodness gracious… Melissa is undergoing ultra-rapid intensification, and is soon to fully wrap intense convection around a nascent eye on infrared. It could be a Category 4 shortly after midnight.

UNBELIEVABLE. ADT estimates put #MELISSA at T8.3 — one of the highest ever observed in the Atlantic. Satellite presentations don’t get much better than this in the Atlantic. We’re witnessing history on satellite right now. MELISSA likely nearing/at Category 5 status.

If anyone along the far north approach path to #OHare thinks you just heard a loud military jet, you did Not sure what it was, as this is all that came up on the ADS-B

Personally never seen something quite like this…but does appear the radar beam height detecting this feature is around 3 km… Pretty sharp change in wind direction there and although subtle in the sounding, appears to mark the top of the purely lake-induced boundary layer

This is beyond cool. Heavy lake effect band has pivoted to Chicago. It's going to work its way through possibly as far south is deep into Will county. The models were all over the this week with some saying snow some saying none. But most of them showed this by Thursday.

I grew up in the Midwest for over 20 years and I can honestly say I've never seen a scene quite like this in Michigan City, Indiana. I've seen foliage at higher elevation but never have I seen peak foliage which such a high impacting Lake Effect snow event. Truly otherworldly.

Last night, a severe geomagnetic storm painted magnificent colors of the northern lights across a starry canvas over North America.

SATURDAY NOON: 3.2” has accumulated so far at O’Hare Airport, that’s bigger than ANY snow all last snow season. The heaviest snow last year was 2.9” on November 21. Forecast looks solid. 6-9” for most of us, locally higher in a few spots. #ilwx #inwx ☃️❄️
