A new era of VCU Women's Basketball dawned today with the introduction of Chelsea Banbury, a proven winner intent on setting a revitalized standard for Rams women’s hoops 🐏🏀⚫️🟡 RTD Sports “I love winning championships, and I love getting to the NCAA tournament. But I'm not satisfied with

"It's pressure but it's welcomed pressure... We're not playing to have people come to us this time of year and say 'hey that was a good year.'" VCU Basketball head coach Phil Martelli Jr. reflects on his team's 2025-26 season

Never forget how good we have it Ram fans. Family culture is a concept a lot of places talk about. We’ve got it at VCU. Not just now. We’ve been having it. It’s special. #RamNationOrNoNation #YouDontWantToGoToWar #LetsGoVCU #Ramily

Your VCU Rams are ranked 30th in Rothstein’s preseason top 45 even accounting for Terrence Hill’s possible departure. SLU at 32nd. Tyrell Ward is so good that he’s a projected starter and bench player and Barry Evans has apparently been granted an extra year of eligibility. 🔥😂

I mean he’s who people thought Shaka was and I love Shaka. Took FAU to the Final Four (a program with WAY less resources & support than VCU). Then got hired to a well-resourced sleeping giant high major gig (like Texas) & got them a natty in short order. He’s a STUD as a coach.

That said, the effect of NIL on that is undeniable. Credit to May who has thrived adjusting to the NIL era whereas Shaka has relatively struggled.

True and yet VCU even then was much better resourced and supported than FAU. They were barely getting a 1000 people to their games.

He still had all those resources and hype around him at Texas when he was there, NIL or no. It was still relative to the competition one of the most stacked athletic departments in the country. No one else had NIL either at that point.
