Basically, "I'm a plastic surgeon but I'm gonna criticize PCPs for not doing their job better & other docs for not going into primary care/preventive health because I want to publicize my upcoming book." Maybe you should switch to primary care & fix the shortcomings you see.

I'm sorry your friend got bad medical care. You can't generalize that and say doctors aren't compassionate enough. I'm sorry you as a plastic surgeon don't understand that there are EXCELLENT primary care physicians out there that provide quality cost-efficient care.

Robert Pearl, MD L.A. Times Opinion I’d love to give you the benefit of the doubt for this article- how can you justify blaming physicians for excess deaths during the pandemic? I wish you would have reflected more on your time as an insurance exec when I’m sure you saw the actual systemic issues at play.

Robert Pearl, MD L.A. Times Opinion I’m alarmed with your lack of touch with reality. When reading this article, it was very clear to me the author was not in healthcare and simply didn’t research enough to back up all of the baseless claims. I was shocked when I got to the end and saw your credentials.

Robert Pearl, MD L.A. Times Opinion No sir. YOU epitomize what really IS wrong with medical culture. It is the culture of selling out colleagues and the profession in order to enrich oneself. I hope the sales of your book are worth the profound loss of professional respect in the eyes of the medical community.

Y’all talk a lot about doctors needing to be nice to nurses but no one wants to discuss that nurses can be brutal to docs, especially baby residents.

kyshari mccullough, do (she/her) Nurses are not ALL amazing. Doctors are not ALL amazing. Just being a part of a lifesaving group of people doesn’t mean you won’t be a bully. Studies have shown that female nurses do give a harder time to female physicians especially junior ones, and rate them more harshly.

I know it’s been said, but I love the justification for midlevel title changes. ā€œPatients might think we’re lesser trained than we are. We have to call ourselves physician associates and nurse anesthesiologists!ā€

Shout out to medical trainees (esp women) who have been told you’re too quiet, too reserved, or that you need to be more assertive & confident. May you **quietly** remember that there’s room for all personality types in medicine.

This country has an epidemic; ignorance and selfishness mutated together and formed an an undereducated narcissistic society. Even if we get through the pandemic, we are doomed if we don’t fix one or both of those issues.

Medical privacy laws should not protect those giving online reviews. If you’re willing to publicly slander a physician or nurse’s reputation, they should have a right to respond with their side and facts.

To the woman who just called me a bitch in the elevator as I head to my 15-hour overnight shift…I’m a doctor during the worst pandemic of our lifetime that just keeps getting more horrific. Have some compassion. Healthcare workers are allowed to look tired and over it right now.
