This entire topic has been something on my mind with increasing frequency (because we have personally been through so much in that past 4 years). But, everything in this thread is an exercise worth doing (no matter where you are in life) - for yourself and your loved ones.

1,000 times, yes. The possibility of failure (and character death) always needs to be there. That isn't to say that I am one of those DMs that chases character deaths, but it shouldn't be avoided or explained away. One of my most memorable sessions was also a funeral for a PC.

Made these for a kid's D&D game (Familiar Things) I'm running for my daughter and her friends. Kinda dig that we can use dry erase to keep track of HP and Initiative during combat (and turn them to face the DM). Tony DiTerlizzi print in the background. 🙂
