Try a combination of azelaic acid and salicylic acid. Using Retinoids is also key when dealing with comedones but purging is stronger with retinoids because it works fast!

Once your comedones mature to big inflamed acne, that’s purging and a huge congratulations to you because you’ve now graduated. Otherwise, comedones can stay on your skin for so long but inflamed acne last a few days and respond to benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, even azelaic acid.

In the clinic, I prefer treating inflamed acne than people with comedonal acne (sorry guys) because inflamed acne responds faster. Comedonal acne are small but relentless. I have talked about it over the years.
