#Salvini #OpenArms: the international far-right unites on the idea of a "persecuted" leader. #Meloni first attacks the judiciary. The National Association of Magistrates: "Separation of powers is under attack; pressure on #judges". #ruleoflaw #EU (Details in the article below🗞️)

This is quite an announcement and huge loss for the next Commission. After Nicolas Schmit, now Breton: why are all the political heavyweights apparently not getting to play a relevant role in the Commission president‘s proposal for a new college?

I cheeky move would now be, if Ursula von der Leyen gets France to nominate a socialist woman instead of Breton. She would then have removed a political enemy and appeased the socialists at the same time.

Wow, this does not bode well for the confirmation process and for relations with the EP where VDL already relies on fragile majorities ↘️

Quelqu'un pour rappeler à Leisterh que, même si lui reçoit ses ordres d'un Wallon, les Bruxellois·es néerlandophones ne sont pas des "Flamands". Ce sont avant tout des Bruxellois·es...

First von der Leyen got rid of Nicolas Schmit, PES lead candidate, now it's Thierry Breton's turn. Those who disliked von der Leyen's presidential style will have to brace for more of the same - but on steroids and with even fewer internal checks and balances.

What is going on? There are still people in this world who see migrants as human beings who cannot be locked up, starved, abandoned without consequences, Prime Minister. This is what is going on.

Just to give you the scale of the crisis: In the 90s, EUcomm President Santer preferred to dump his whole commission - himself included - than to fire the French commissioner actually responsible for the scandals that lead to his downfall. Because you can't treat Paris like that

I'm all for the EU commission president having a bigger say on the nomination of Commissioners. It is logical in a parliamentary democracy. But if that's the rule, it should also be applied to EPP country nominees.

The S&D Group have one more reason to be pissed about the new Ursula von der Leyen college as Macron didn't even consider a socialist nominee while latest elections + breton resignation offered a chance to balance things out a bit.

Unpopular Opinion: Natierlech misst et meiglech sinn, Lëtzebuergesch am EU-Parlament ze schwätzen. Genausou wéi och Katalanesch.
