This afternoon, Auburn North PS teachers began our Semester Two TPL program called 'Developing the Mathematician' (not just the mathematics). This professional learning series will equip staff with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to implement the new Maths Curriculum.

Session One helped staff recognise 'The Why' behind this TPL series at this point in our SIP journey, with reasons including, increasing the level of challenge in lessons (a recommendation from our 2019 external review, student learning data and of course, the curriculum reform.

Who doesn't love a pack? Whole school TPL programs Auburn North PS really encourage teachers to invest in their ongoing professional learning. And what says that more than your own study pack?

The Instructional Leadership team Auburn North PS have been inspired by the NSW Dept of Education K-2 Microlearning series and have integrated some components of the learning into the professional learning. Staff also received a sneak peak into the new structure of the syllabus.

A highlight of the TPL was the sweaty brain work our staff participated in through a rich maths task. It was great to see staff embrace the challenge and the feelings of being in the 'learning pit'. Amazing reflection on the numeracy and 21st century skills required for the task.

Our 'Developing the Mathematician' TPL series continued today. Session Two began with a check-in on the caterpillar rich task from our first session. Some teachers tried the task with their class. It was wonderful to hear their reflections! Thank you Catherine Mao Charlotte

We then reviewed our in-between session reading about the four 'Working Mathematically' processes set out in the new mathematics curriculum through a very entertaining and competitive game of Kahoot!! So much fun!

We revisited the Ten Principles of Effective Mathematics Instruction and began to explore what constitutes rich tasks in mathematics. This video from Professor Janette Bobis assisted staff in understanding why rich tasks are so important and what is meant by productive struggle

To round our the session, Instructional Leaders shared two examples of rich tasks they trialled with their maths groups across the K-6 school. Brilliant tasks from NRICH maths and NSW Dept of Education's Thinking Mathematically resource provided wonderful inspiration! Michelle Tregoning

Kindergarten Parents as Partners in Learning Workshop 2 🎲 During the session, parents and students explored mathematical concepts. To support them, we provided learning packs that included math resources for families to take home. Jana-Elyse Picken Aisha

Mrs Picken and Miss Zeidan shared the Kindergarten Math Targets and various math activities to support students in counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Parents and students explored these activities together during the session. Jana-Elyse Picken Aisha

1/3 Today Kindergarten went to Golden Ridge Farm 🐔🐑🐖🐓🐐 When we got to the farm, we had many fun experiences with the friendly farmers. We got to hand feed goats and alpacas 🦙We also got to pat some goats 🐐

2/3 At Golden Ridge Farm, we had lots of fun milking Betty the cow 🐄 and bottle feeding the baby goats 🐐

3/3 Finally, Kindergarten got to experience holding a baby chick and patting a duckling, rabbit and guinea pig 🐥🐰 We had such a fun day at the farm. The memories we made today will stay with us forever 🐑🐥🐖🐐🐓🦙

The fire truck visited our school today 🚒 The firefighters shared some very important information about fire safety and then students were able to explore the fire truck! Students got to learn how to turn on and off a hose and see the inside of the fire truck. Thank you Fire and Rescue NSW
