St. George's Hill (Red/Blue), arguably the first residential golf community, is in the top echelon of heathland courses and may be Harry S. Colt's greatest course. I have it over Swinley Forest and while I love Sunningdale New I consider it as much a Simpson as a Colt. MUST PLAY

Our 18th is the perfect finish to any match or medal — bunkers, a heavily sloping green, and Jessie’s Pond all in play. Birdies and doubles are equally possible here, but at least the green’s hidden from the veranda to spare any embarrassment.

The 7th green is currently framed by acres of purple heather — but even without it in bloom, as seen here in July, it holds its own. A standout hole year-round.

Following its renovation 18 months ago, New Zealand's 18th green is looking more like the 1930s version of itself. Current conditions are definitely firm and fast.
