Vining peas for HMC Peas coming into flower. Not only are they delicious, they are also very clever; their roots now producing nitrogen fixing nodules. These nodules add natural nutrition to the soil, helping the next winter wheat crop in this field. 🫛🤓😋

The peas will very soon be mechanically harvested by the ‘viner’. The pea crop has not enjoyed the wet & dull weather, with a big range of pea maturity down the plant. Timing of harvest will have to be a compromise and yields will be down due to amount of immature pods. 🫛😋😐

Made a start on the winter wheat today. This first field of Graham is 10-15% below farm average yield. (I expect due to lack of sunlight in June). Other varieties & later sown will hopefully be better.
