The fire service faces big challenges ahead: aging gear, wildfires, budget gaps, climate risks. Leaders and crews alike need to prepare now. Read more here: ow.ly/5zzS50WCl5z #FireService #FirefighterLeadership

#NERIS is happening! Already 2% of departments are submitting and the rest will be there by end of the year. One of the advantages is data augmentation that #NFIRS never had. This is just the beginning. #FireDAWG IAFC #FRI2025

As fire chiefs, are we considering the economic impact of our work and its costs to others? For instance, what does it cost to shut down a freeway? Dan Munsey of San Bernadino explains that closing I-15 between CA and NV had an impact of $3.9M per hour. IAFC #FRI2025 #FireDAWGs

#FireDAWGs: CRR (Community Risk Reduction) is not an event, but it is your job! Jill Cotton of IROL is leading a panel on the role of codes in protecting communities.

"We collect lots of data, but what are we doing with it?" CRR begins with an identification of risk by analyzing multiple sources. We have asked that exact question with #MARVLIS and can view it dynamically as a model to visualize risk at any moment. #FireDAWG IAFC #FRI2025

Data use must be tied to data collection - and data use must be dynamic to generate the most value. Applications like #MARVLIS are real game-changers in how we consume data.

There are new smoke alarms that can reduce the incidence of false alarms but their cost are much higher. How do we prove that cost/benefit?

How to build data literacy in the fire service: Fairfax provided annual responder stats - where did you run calls, what types of calls, how many IVs, etc. When they complain they did more, you can point out that they may not have entered everything they should have in reports.

In recruit academies, we spend time reviewing basic job functions like pulling hose and throwing ladders, but we need to include business applications and ethics of handling data. We give them access to PCRs, but the community gives them AI tools we don't control. #FireDAWG IAFC

#FireDAWG: Be careful how you plan for the future. Just a couple years ago we were begging for a single Common Operational Picture (COP) but now we are happy to have dozens of them. We are not starved for data, but are still lacking actionable information highlights. #FRI2025

Q. Is #AI an "augmentation" or "replacement"? A. If #AI can replace your judgement today, goodbye. Sure it will replace tasks, but prompting and reviewing output is still a critical human function (at least for this generation.) #FireDAWG IAFC #FRI2025
