Can anyone who's into Viking studies, norse mythology, or Anglo-Saxon stuff, identify this bound beast? 🤩 On the back side of a 9th / 10th c. highcross shaft, in a church at the centre of the Stanwick Iron Age Camp (whatever it actually is...) #archaeology #history #viking #UK

Braved the rain to go detecting today and my only half decent find is this broken stirrup. Age wise, not really sure but I'd guess at Georgian.

Got some advice for using the Manticore from the good people at thedetectinghub.co.uk - feel so much more confident in it now. Finds today - love token, George II Hibernia farthing, some bronze 'blobs', and the an item which has had gold gild on - any help with ID appreciated

Just had a closer look at one of the copper alloy 'blobs' found yesterday. I'm not sure whether this might be a fragment of a very small kids' fibula brooch. Could be totally wrong, but it kind of has the look of one.

Incredible history in the Puglia region in Italy. From Early Christian mosaic floors, to ancient Greek amour and vessels, to Bronze Age weaponry, 18th century palaces, and even the tomb of Santa (Saint Nicholas). Too many photos to show!

Cartwheel penny, musketball, 1936 sixpence, what i think is part of a watch winder, and four bits of lead/pewter one of which is a cheeky cherub face. The bits of pewter were all found in the same area, so probably parts of the same item. Guess at Georigian era, but not sure.

So on my day off today, I've been sifting through the backfill from the Roman drains at the Carlisle Roman Bathhouse. Looking for things that were dropped all that time ago. As a group we recovered 8 beads, a jet ring, and another intaglio showing the god Bacchus holding grapes!
