Wonderful opening ceremony by Mi’kmaq drummers, singers, and dancers of the #asipei2019 Forum. I’m checking out their show at the Guild Wednesday at 7pm!!

Nice comments coming from Dennis King about working collaboratively as a minority government as refreshing and the way it should be. How about proportional electoral systems to continue this kind of structure of having to work more together??

I’m happy to see such a diverse range of topics being presented in the Atlantic Showcase. Skill building, bullying prevention, helping sex workers and those exploited in the sex trade, and monitoring climate change, among others. #asipei2019

Talking about climate change is talking about SCIENCE. It’s not partisan. This is unacceptable and I feel like it’s 2011 again. Enough is enough. #cdnpoli

Great questions being raised by Dr. Gaynor Watson Creed about feeling welcome. Are the citizens (babies) born into our society welcome? Are the baby citizens of teenage Moms welcome? Radicalized babies welcome? Disabled babies? Queer babies??

Derrick Biso (@derrickbiso) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We innately know when we are welcome and when we are not. How can we make ourselves and our communities more welcoming? Questions posed by Dr. Watson-Creed during her keynote at #asipei2019

Welcomes are dependent on another. They are active, not passive. We have the capacity to welcome, or not. (And we have a all have a responsibility to welcome each other), #oneearth #onespecies #noborders #asipei2019

The importance of ‘neighbourliness’ in creating welcoming circumstances. Oh, won’t you be my neighbour. And help creat meaningful relationships between peoples of all generations and walks of life. #asipei2019

Dr. Watson-Creed recognizing the importance of love, being loved and feeling loved. Real love, not some bullshit hard and mean sort of abuse calling itself love. But real accepting, embracing, celebrating, collaborating, hype-you-up kinda love! #asipei2019

Listening to Marie-Claude Roberge on Social Determinants for Health. The important if looking at our ‘setting’ or the context of our lives. Again, I’m thinking of how important economic justice is and ensuring people have access to what they need to survive & thrive. #asipei2019

With the sky rocketing inflation of the cost of living and education. The incredible amounts of debt we take on as young people, and especially the stress on parents to care for their children is impeding our ability to thrive and self actualize ourselves. #asipei2019

Not to mention the ‘cool cruelty’ or so many people in our society. Who are gatekeepers to resources and services and have at times different interests then the ones they are serving. We need better relations and respect across all lines of difference. #asipei2019

1/2 We are in desperate need of welcoming people and welcoming systems. I would argue our ‘representative’ democracy, our capitalist economic system, the military-occupation-state of Canada, established through ideas of white supremacy and the literal genocide of First peoples...

2/2 are themselves part of the problem we face as youth, children, and a peoples. If we do not address these cultural problems there will certainly be a lack of deep and sustained healing. We need transformation - as individuals, communities, and a society. #asipei2019

Derrick Biso (@derrickbiso) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Instead of operating in silos and competing against each other we need large collaborations and mutual aid. The support we need is cultural. We have to raise the foundation to support everyone and ensure equitable programming/services to address historical inequities. #asipei2019

We can never forget that the work we are doing is literally the front lines of the struggle of life and death. We are losing some of the most precious and bright children and youth, and so often these losses could be avoided if we put people first. #asipei2019

1/2 I’m really happy with all the comments from the larger group at @asipei2019 following the youth panel. The need for meaningful youth engagement and inclusion, of being passionate and inspirational. We need to lead with love and work through love and bring all relations...

2/2 together to share their stories, experiences, and ideas. There is a lot we can do with our passions and with what we have. If we all join in the efforts to liberate everyone we will all benefit!!
