Once you've decided that you want to distribute money to consumers, #BasicIncome is an efficient way to do it. #UBI is a way of getting people money, not a particular amount.

#BostonBasicIncome's last episode made for a good summary of the show, and a preview for what's next. I was honored to have a small part in this group's contribution to the study of #BasicIncome. youtube.com/watch?v=r0tcYo…

Tom Pogson Incremental Change is for the #Privileged Few!!! @AltruistPeter Derek Van Gorder I like to emphasize that #BasicIncome is a mechanism for getting people money (i.e. even distribution to everyone paid out regularly) rather than a particular amount. We can then ask what the optimal level of #UBI is given no other changes in fiscal policy. Is it zero?

My paper on #BasicIncome and financial instability has been posted in the USBIG discussion paper series. Give it a read! usbig.net/papers/basic-i…

If you've ever wondered what this whole #BasicIncome (UBI) thing is about, I just posted a revised version of my working paper, "The Natural Rate of Basic Income," which I presented at two conferences (BIEN and FRIBIS) in 2021. greshm.org/files/natural-…

Phil Jackson has a great take on a difference of opinion between Scott Santens and Elon Musk over Universal Income: should it be 'basic' or 'high'? greshm.org/blog/universal… "Technology affects the level of UBI we can afford, not the feasibility of UBI itself."

UBI is a cash delivery method or system; it is often paired with novel taxes as part of a package deal, but the tax end is its own separate discussion.

Labor-saving technology will advance faster if we expect to use it. Universal Basic Income helps us get the most out of labor-saving technology.

Derek Van Gorder (@derekvg) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Heymrpostie ManInLowCastle Alex Howlett An efficient and productive economy always needs both UBI to fuel consumption, and wages to motivate labor. As labor-saving technology improves, the necessary balance between UBI and wages shifts in UBI's favor. Striking the right balance of UBI & wages doesn't cause inflation.

My colleague Phil Jackson at The Greshm Institute recently gave this talk on the economics of UBI. Automating away unpleasant work should be good for society, yet removing jobs from our economy seems to harm people. UBI resolves this apparent paradox. youtube.com/watch?v=8a-nLm…

What problem does a #UBI actually solve? UBI delivers money to people in a reliable, efficient way, saving us from having to generate makework. My colleague Philip Jackson explains in his new blog post: greshm.org/blog/what-prob…
